St. John’s and St. Peter’s Churches Autumn Fayre

A very successful Autumn Fayre raised £1147 towards the day-to-day cost of running the church. Thank you to everybody who helped in any way: to the stallholders, to those who baked, or gave prizes and to those who came and supported us. The Summer Fete and the Autumn Fayre are our two main fundraisers each year.

Thank you also to everyone who supported the Tabletop Sale. We made £317 towards funds. Unfortunately, we rather lacked customers.

We would ask everyone in the village and surrounding areas to come and support us. These events are not just for church goers and we would love to see more of you there.

A huge 'thank you' goes to the Church Fellowship who gave us a very generous donation which is most gratefully accepted.

You will always find a welcome at both Chelford and Lower Withington churches.

'Sowing Sunday' service

Our Plough Sunday service was a little different this year. We decided that as we do not have as many farms about we should widen it to include all gardeners.

Thanks to Joe Norbury we had the old plough in church and lots of the congregation brought their garden tools to be blessed. All the adults went away with some seeds to sow, in the hope that they might be able to bring some produce back to our Harvest Festival.

The children sowed mustard and cress and, hopefully, they will let us know if they come up. I look forward to an egg and cress sandwich in a few weeks time!

Our next Family Service without communion is the first Sunday in March and the theme is Temptation. What tempts you - chocolate, cake, money! Come and see what we are talking about!

'Can we tempt you?

We talked about temptations and how they affect us. Christine Sullivan and Chrissie Stannard performed a sketch about how we might be tempted by pride. We then read the passage about putting our armour on and the children dressed Chrissie Stannard in mock up armour. We had a washing line behind with all sorts of temptations - not food or money particularly but bullying, hurtful words etc. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the cuppa afterwards.
