Chelford Brownies on their annual Pack Holiday
Rain didn't stop play at the recent Chelford Brownies Pack Holiday weekend. Undaunted by the chilly wet weather, the Brownies pretended they were in sunnier climes with a weekend themed around the film 'Madagascar 2 - Escape to Africa'.

Eleven girls and three adult helpers spent the weekend at Ashley Pack Holiday House, near Mobberley, with a packed programme of African crafts, outdoor hunts, games and shadow theatre. Saturday evening saw every girl performing, as part of work on their Entertainer's Badge. A baking session making African sweet potato biscuits earned them a contribution to Cook's Badge, and a rota of chores saw everyone cheerfully tackling washing-up - with no muttering about lack of a dishwasher.

Brown Owl Alison Richardson said:"A weekend away together is a great opportunity for the girls to live as a Brownie unit. Many of them were on their first trip away from home and they did really well - although everyone was shattered at the end of the weekend!"

A group of Chelford Brownies were among 3500 Rainbows, Brownies and Guides attending a spectacular party in Congleton Park on Sunday September 6th to launch the Centenary of Guiding in the UK. It was one of many held that weekend involving hundreds of thousands of Girlguiding UK members around Great Britain to start a year of celebrations commemorating 100 years of Guiding.

On this weekend exactly 100 years ago, a small group of courageous girls stepped forward at the 1909 Boy Scouts Rally in Crystal Palace Park and asked its Founder, Robert Baden-Powell, for ‘something for the girls’. Guiding has come a long way since then – the movement has travelled all over the globe with over 10 million members worldwide and over 500,000 in the UK.

All over the country, Guiding members were invited to bring along a past member of guiding and ask them to ‘come and look at us now!’ So three of the Chelford Brownies brought along their Mums, who had previously been Guides or Brownies.

Undaunted by seriously wet weather, the Chelford Group took part in a wide range of activities, from making woggles in the Heritage Zone to juggling plates in the Creativity sector and tackling the giant inflatable obstacle course in the Outdoor Activities section.

Chelford Brownies will be undertaking a range of badges and other activities associated with the Centenary celebrations, which conclude next October with a special event at Macclesfield Football Ground where everyone will renew their Guiding Promise.
CHELFORD BROWNIES VISIT THE GAUNTLET BIRDS OF PREY
Chelford Brownies were invited to visit Gauntlet Birds of Prey Centre at Knutsford as part of their work towards 'Friend to Animals' badge.

The girls were given a classroom flying demonstration by a barn owl and a kestrel, before visiting the outdoor arena to get up close to an eagle owl. Each Brownie was given the chance to hold the owl, before watching a flying demonstration by four vultures. One of the stars of the visit was 'Scooby', a raven, who performed tricks for the girls. The Brownies also toured the site, which is next to Fryers Garden Centre, looking at the huge variety of birds of prey that Gauntlet displays.

Spring is just around the corner, according to Chelford Brownies. They spent part of a recent Tuesday meeting planting spring bulbs at Chelford Church.

The girls hope that their narcissi and snowdrops will create a bright splash of colour on the roadside verge near the War Memorial.

Their bulb planting was one of their community initiatives forming work on a particular badge this term.
