Chelford 20 mile Round
On a cool but dry October day, 11 Chelfordians set out on the Chelford 20 mile challenge.
Eight set off bright and early at 9.00 am from the Egerton Arms with three more starting at 10.00 am running! These energetic souls overtook the walkers on Grotto Lane. Shak dropped out with a dodgy tummy at 10 miles but after a 2 mile diversion to home he was back out in time to join the walkers at Stubby Lane.
Phillipa Michell and Sascha (both 11 years) & Theo Gilmour completed what will now be the Junior Chelford Round - a distance of 10 miles. This is a tremendous achievement especially for Theo who is 7 years old.
The runners, Andy Egerton and Jim McBrinn set a new Chelford Round record, racing home in 3:28. It was Andy's birthday and he had 'a tremendous day'.
Walkers, Susan Michell (7:00) and James Gilmour (6:58) completed the Round. This speedy walk was no doubt aided by being chased by horses and a 5 minute lunch break. Susan even managed a sprint up Dixon Drive to complete the 20 miles.
Great effort everyone! It was a grand day out topped off with a well earned pint or two at the Egerton.
