NOVEMBER is the month we start storing everything away, if we have good days tables and chairs can be washed off before storing, tubs and pots can be empted and stacked away if you haven't planted them up. On a dry day the lawn can be cut and the edges tidied. If the mower is needing a service get it booked in so it's ready in time for spring. Before you put your garden tools away spray with some oil to stop them rusting over winter.

November is a month to plant new trees, shrubs and roses. If any plant that you have needs moving they can be lifted and moved while the soil is still warm and they will establish themselves. Add stakes if they are tall, water well and give a layer of mulch. Fruit trees and bushes can be pruned but don't do it when it is frosty, wait for a warmer day.

On going jobs are collecting leaves off the lawns and borders, and with the damp weather check your paths are not slippy

Tulip bulbs can be planted this month and with so many varieties you can have them flowering from early spring through to summer in all shapes, sizes and colours.

November 5th is bonfire night .Make sure if you are having a bonfire at home that you check there are no hedghogs or small animals are sheltering under it.

As the weather gets colder if you don't already, put food out for the birds and a dish of clean water.
